About

John Doxey is an experienced journalist, geriatric care manager and oral historian. For as long as I can remember, I’ve taken great joy in meeting people from many places and walks of life and finding ways to connect. My passion is uncovering personal stories that may otherwise go untold, adding depth and richness to the understanding of recent social history.

My journalism work includes general assignment reporting for the Associated Press in Baltimore and Nebraska and freelance reporting for BusinessWeek (now called Bloomberg Businessweek) and other publications in Romania, Turkey and California.

I’ve worked since 2007 as a care manager for older adults with physical and cognitive health issues in the San Francisco Bay Area – except for a period (2014-2019) when I recruited educators for international schools while based in San Francisco and the Netherlands. For the past several years, I’ve also been managing oral history projects in San Francisco, including the Telegraph Hill Dwellers Oral History Project.

I was born and raised in San Francisco, and attended UC Berkeley (bachelor’s degree in history), Northwestern University (master’s in journalism) and San Francisco State University (master’s in gerontology).
